Feeding the Seed of the Soul

We have reached day 14 of Advent. It is my desire to honor the rhythm of work and rest, and to work from the place of rest. Because it is too easy to give into a culture that clamors for us to work more than the rest.

One of the 20th centuries most brilliant minds, Abraham Joshua Heschel, said this of Sabbath:

“Six days a week we wrestle with the world, wringing profit from the earth; on the Sabbath we especially care for the seed of eternity planted in the soul.

The world has our hands, but our soul belongs to Someone Else.

Six days a week we seek to dominate the world; on the seventh day we try to dominate the self.”

Today, I cultivate the soil of the soul. Today is set aside for the Divine to plant and water, to make a way and room for the root to grow and a bud to form for tomorrow.

Grace and Peace as you seek out Sabbath for the soul.
