Living Gratitude

Another year. Another gift. As I put away the box holding all that was of year 46, I simultaneously pull the bow off the gift that is year 47.

Once again, the Divine has breathed life into my lungs for another day, which begins a new year. It is all grace. I didn’t buy it, win it, earn it, or create it. It has been gifted to me. That’s what each breath is, a gift, which is true for each one of us. There are certainly times in which I try and take more credit for this life than is deserved, and there are times in which I should take far more responsibility for the lot of it. But to get lost in all of that is to play a game where no one wins.

So I’ll stick with gratitude for the absolute brilliance, beauty, and gift that has been the past 46 years. I share this life with a strong, fierce with love bride, Sarah. We have been gifted three joy-inducing boys. Together, we have the honor of walking with a heart-flexing and culture-shaping church community, Walker Harbor. Each day I am invited to teach, lead, and love us forward.

All of this brilliance is a gift. Sure, I’ll take as many years of this as are gifted to me. I walk it all in gratitude.

Living gratitude.
