Highs and Lows and the Depth of the In-between

The peak has never been the point. You know that mountain top experience where you feel transcendence? Yeah, I love it too, but it’s not the point. Rather, it’s the persistence along the path that carves out the deep life. Read that sentence again, because it’s more than a sentence. It’s a prayer, a mantra, a bass note that grounds us when we feel like life is out of rhythm.

You see, we have this beginning point and on the other side we have the goal, the end point. Then there is the path, the space between the points which operates as our guide and our glue. This space is often laced with tension. It’s often an incredible struggle to keep to the path, to stay the course. But the path, this space, this is where the sacred finds us and transforms everything. So close your eyes and pause. Take a deep breath. Now open your eyes.

Welcome to the space between the clouds. It’s liminal space, and together we’ll learn to love the liminal.

God comes to us disguised as our very lives. The normal everyday activities of grocery shopping and mowing the lawn and making peanut butter sandwiches and changing diapers and paying the electric bill and answering one more email.   The everyday is the place where the Divine resides.
